Summary Saturday: Dictionary Awareness Week

For Valentine's Day, my man bought me a new computer. I didn't realize how bad mine had gotten until my new HP was sitting on my desk! Therefore I am super behind on blog posting, so there is about to be a barrage of blogs posts starting with this one!

Here is a picture of our school Valentine's party. We had a candlelight dinner consisting of Creamy Baked Chicken with noodles, Strawberry Spinach Salad, and Fudge Pie for dessert. The girls had a great time and thought that it was soooo romantic! Monkey just kept looking at the candles and repeating, "Hot. Hot. Hot." I'm assuming he was talking about how awesome his mom looks! *wink*

In history, Chipette was studying King Philip's War. She learned that King Philip had a coat covered in wampum, which was used as money by some Native Americans along the Eastern coast. So our history activity was to make a belt out of "wampum" using the design in one of our history books. This picture is of Chipette's wampum belt using rice, some of which was dyed purple to make the design of men holding hands (hopefully you can tell it is supposed to be that!). Underneath she copied a paragraph telling about King Philip and wampum.

The funniest thing that happened this week was when I was teaching Chipette some dictionary skills. She had to look up two vocabulary words in her dictionary. Once she got the hang of it, she had Magpie call out words to her so she could look them up. Later that night, she was commenting on the dictionary. Here was our conversation:

Chipette: The dictionary is so cool, Mom!

Me: Really? Why do you think so?

Chipette: You can find anything in here! It's like putting the entire Internet in a book!

Here she is enjoying the "Internet in a book."

I hope all of you had a great Valentine's Day last week as well.

Enjoying new electronics and dictionaries in the treehouse,

Chelli
