Tasty Tuesday: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Being from the South, there is one dessert that we prize above all others…the cobbler. There is nothing like a good fruit cobbler with a side of vanilla ice cream to make those dog days of summer pass a little more quickly.
The only problem is which one? Blackberry, peach, apple, blueberry, strawberry, cherry. While I can’t make that decision for you, I did figure out a way to combine two of the above options into one delicious cobbler.
Here is what you need to make Black and Blue Cobbler:

2 cups frozen blackberries
2 cups frozen blueberries
2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 cup water
1 stick of butter
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 1/2 cups milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine the berries, 1 cup sugar, and water in a saucepan and mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat.

Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt.

Mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping.

Pour mixture over melted butter. Do not stir.

Spoon fruit on top.

Gently pour in syrup.

Sprinkle top lightly with sugar. Bake for 45 minutes. Batter will rise to the top during baking.

A perfect marriage of the black and the blue in one delicious cobbler!

Nothing left when I took this to church potluck, mostly thanks to Preacher Man!
Now where did I put that Bluebell vanilla ice cream in the tree house?
