Tasty Tuesday: Even the Little Red Hen Would Share

I am not a bread maker by trade, so when my mother-in-law passed along a homemade wheat bread recipe I snatched it up. It is so easy, my eight year old could make it…and has helped me make it!
Here is what you need to make Whole Wheat Bread:

1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
3 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup butter to melt
12 oz. seltzer water
First, mix dry ingredients with seltzer.

Put dough into a greased bread pan. Melt 1/3 of the butter and pour over the dough.

Bake for 30 minutes in a 370 degree oven. Take bread out of oven. Melt 1/3 of the butter and pour over the bread.

Bake for 10 more minutes. Take bread out of oven. Melt the last 1/3 of butter and pour over the bread.

Remove bread from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.

Slice and enjoy!

With some simple mixing and only 50 minutes to bake, even the Little Red Hen would have been happy to share this bread without anyone helping her at all!
Keeping my carbivores happy with homemade bread in the tree house,
Chelli

    1. It is fantastic! We never have leftover for more than a day. When I make it for supper, the kids like to eat the leftovers the next day with jelly on it for breakfast.
